The Washington Glass School welcomes its new studio coordinator - Audrey Wilson!
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Audrey has a BA from Kent State University. Audrey has worked at the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio as the studio and teaching assistant, working with the museum's visiting glass artists.  
Audrey's artwork references nature and organic forms, and she specializes in kiln casting, pate de verre and sand casting with mixed media.

Besides her work in glass, Audrey has a BA in art education, and will begin teaching classes soon at the school.

Washington Glass School/Studio is Seeking a Studio Coordinator and Production Manager.

The Washington Glass School and Studio is one of the largest and most successful warm glass and sculpture centers in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 10 years time we have seen over 4000 students and sent many on to rewarding careers. Our focus is on sculpture, both as individual studio artists, and large-scale public art commissions.

This is a very integral position within our community. You will be responsible for coordinating equipment usage in the studio, be responsible for organizing and keeping the studio clean, assisting the principle artists, packing and shipping artwork, overseeing some large scale projects and (eventually) teaching some classes. Experience in glass is helpful, but not necessary, as we will train. 

There will be heavy lifting; plaster mixing and mold making, and mold steaming as well. Some exhibition and project installations will require assistance. The schedule is flexible; the studio is typically open from 10am to 6pm M-F, but your hours are based on workload. We are open to unusual scheduling. There are also some evening and weekend classes.

While this is a demanding job, it also can be an extremely educational and rewarding one. Besides being part of a vibrant and successful studio, you will have your own workspace and will be encouraged to make your own artwork and to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that pass through our doors. The pay is $10 per hour to start with a salary evaluation after 90 days. 

You will receive additional pay for every class you teach. We are particularly interested in a person who would truly benefit from this position, both personally and artistically. Nicole Puzan - In Memoriam

Studio Coordinator, Glass Artist, Friend

We are sorry to report that our much loved glass studio coordinator passed away yesterday morning. Only 28 years old, Nicole succumbed to a very aggressive ovarian cancer. Our Nicole was a trooper to the end, and we understand that she seemed comfortable as she passed.

Nicole was integral to the Prince George's County Courthouse public artwork sculpture.

Nicole coordinated many art projects while working in the Washington Glass Studio. Here, Nicole is cleaning a just annealed glass casting that was part of the Vanderbilt University Critical Care Tower.

Mick had been working in the props department of the Shakespeare Theater Company, on such shows as Taming of the Shrew, Antony and Cleopatra, King Lear, Henry V, The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar, and many other productions; so clearly, he is familiar with drama - which makes him well suited for the glass school.

Over the next couple of months, Mick will work closely with Rob Kincheloe, for the transfer of power, as Rob sets up his own studio across the Potomac in Prince William County, VA.

Washington Glass Seeks Studio Coordinator

Studio Coordinator Position Open

The Washington Glass School has an immediate opening for a Studio Coordinator in its Mount Rainier, MD location. Founded 8 years ago, this is one of the busiest studios on the east coast. We are not only an educational venue, but we are the home of many successful independent artists as well. We also work heavily with large scale public art projects.

The successful candidate will have many of the following traits:

• Extremely organized and punctual
• Ability to move from one project to the next very quickly
• Be a self starter and able to work independently
• Skills in sculpting clay would be helpful…..as well as skills in computer work, administrative paper work, warm glass, shipping and delivery
• Comfortable with people and able to possibly teach classes in future.

Duties will include:

• Daily studio clean-ups
• Working with plaster, lost wax, warm glass
• Installing sculptural work
• Assisting/coordination or taking over some classes
  
• Coordinating kiln use and kiln schedules
• Review studio material use
  
• 100 things that might come up….and do.
